My Tattered Image.... Goodbye

by Katherine2

This, the horror I see,
Myself engulfed in pain-
Pills ingested as I
Begin to flee.

I thought at first, of
The tree out back
To hang my soiled soul
Like a rack

Witness to my death
I desire,
A mirror to peer in
As I expire.

As the wine pursued the pills,
Voices in my head repeated drills.

They told me of my
Deliberate behavior
The legacy to be left
Without flavor.

I know I never mattered
As I peer into
The mirror I shattered.

As my breath begins
To labor,
My death I watch,
Becoming graver.

You cannot bring me
Back this time.
With flowers and silver
Tongue sublime.

I'm on my one-way
Never again will I face
Your fury.

As I gasp with lungs
So frightened,
In the mirror,
The one forgotten.

Should I have chosen
That tree?
So not to witness
My dying plea?

Tattered thoughts and
Voices loud
My last air fogged
Upon a mirror,
Not proud.

Mirror contest writing prompt entry
Writing Prompt
Write a poem concerning you, or someone, and a mirror. Make it humerous or serious; make it structured or free verse, but keep it brief. Use the mirror as a metaphor in anyway you desire.

When a friend brings you into their suicidal world, it is most difficult to recover. Especially, when they live and want to repeat to complete.
Pays one point and 2 member cents.
