The Lake of Death

by Wabigoon

The Lake of Death

this is your last dream of lakes
your last dream
its keel singing the soundless silk
your canoe is your lover's lips
open just slightly for a sip

you reach inside
the cry of a loon
inside the eye of a fish
inside the moon of golden roe
inside the "O" of shadow

pull the vision
by the seed of a jackpine

in your hand is the dragonfly nymph of a burning kiss
at the center of the world

The last in my series of poems on imaginary Lakes. In this series I was trying to get at what it is about lakes that I loved, that fascinated me.
