Wreaths For A Wounded World
Silver Lining Contest Winner
Write a poem of any type about something ugly (war, hate, cruelty) - but find the beauty (silver lining) in it.
On 15th March, 2019, in Christchurch, New Zealand, 50 people were shot dead and 50 wounded at Friday prayers, when a gunman made a murderous attack on two mosques, while live-streaming his actions on social media. The incomprehensible horror appalled and outraged New Zealanders, who pride themselves on living in a peaceful, tolerant society. An outpouring of grief and support found expression in floral tributes, vigils, rallies and anti-racism peaceful gatherings throughout the country, to show the Muslim sector of our community that they are valued and appreciated as part of "us".
