G is for Grounded

by Sally Law

My Christmas Eve flight had been cancelled.

I was so distraught, I'd thought about feigning kidney donorship.

Flying standby didn't sound too bad; so I made a bed on the frigid floor, my head resting on my Gucci bag. Three hours later, the blaring intercom slapped me silly.

"Now boarding, Flight 217 non-stop to Atlanta."

"Excuse me," chuckled the flight attendant. "You have a G imprinted on your cheek."

"G is for grounded," I said.
