Papa's Birthday Cake

by papa55mike

"What a cake," I whisper to myself. "I can't wait until Papa gets home." Taking the tip of my finger, I gently scoop a tiny bit of icing then pop it in my mouth. "Delicious."

Mama comes in from hanging clothes on the line. She walks over to me with a wary eye. "Did you touch it, Elizabeth?"

"No, ma'am!" I have my fingers crossed under my shoe while sitting on my bed.

Mama tilts her head, trying to see the truth in me. She finally smiles and goes back to washing clothes.

I wish I felt bad for lying.

I loved the picture and that innocent expression on her face.

Many thanks for stopping by to read.

Have a great day and God bless.
