What Am I

by gingermo

What am I?

A speck in the universe
a spark in eternity's fire
a wave in vast oceans
a grain of sand on myriad shores
a ripple in the deep?

Who am I?
A flawed being
crippled with original sin
struggling to evolve
or a timeless soul
unaware, deep in oblivion
dreaming life away
unable to remember
its former splendour?

Have I?
Created my own reality
or is my path decided by fate?
Have I hoarded life not spent it
chosen the safe not the right way
allowed other's beliefs to dictate
too timid to have my say.
Is re-incarnation a fallacy?
Have I lived one life or hundreds
on earth and in the great galaxies?

Do I?
Believe in a judgemental and exacting God
a vengeful, unforgiving deity
or a God who requires nothing
is undemanding, an entity of eternal love
who does not need my piety
my prayers and fealty?

Am I?
A spiritual entity being physical
or a physical being striving to be spiritual
Is my life a process of discovery
or a process of creation?
Is the way to enlightenment learning
or remembrance of past journeys?

I do not know the answers
but would like to think
unseen divinities long vigils keep
guide our destinies
know the way
and do not sleep.
