What could be worse?

An Awful Memory

by Raffaelina Lowcock

I lost my love during the Sars epidemic
Which wasn’t as bad as this pandemic
And he didn’t die of that disease
He died dramatically if you please.
In the hospital during that awful season
No visitors allowed, you know the reason
A special dispensation needed
Only when emergency preceded.
It was then they deemed to notify
He was in a coma about to die
With gowns, and masks and rubber gloves
At his side, finally, were all his loves
So little too late
Who to berate?
Our hearts were deeply broken
At this dispensation token.
So, during this time of isolation
There is no relief or consolation
From the memory of that day
There’s nothing more that I can say.

My heart goes out to all those thousands of relatives that were not able to be with their loved ones and then lost them forever. What could be worse?
