Mama's Defense

by Amanda Louise Davis

The author has placed a warning on this post for violence.
Spilling booze
lit my daddy's short fuse.
It's hard to tell just what he might do.

Rage and hate.
Flying fists, breaking plates.
I hide, worried about all our fates.

Mama's done.
She yells to me to run.
This time she'll protect us with his gun.
