RE: JUST AN OBSERVATION

Heather, If you get more than 15 reviews whether that be poets or writers you have fanned or just plain members you automatically get a "recognised"certificate next to your post.

If you get 25 reviews or more regardless of the quality of your work you get an "all time best" certificate next to your work.

Supposedly Fanstory admin. make that decision before granting this certificate but I am more prone to believe it's an automatic algorithm that simply flags 15 or 25 reviews and rewards accordingly.

I cannot imagine a committee sitting down with the time and the patience and carefully scrutinize these posts when they reach that number of reviews.

It's a business before a poetry/ writing site and anything that would cost money and not making it would not make good business sense.

Other than your yearly subscription and one off 'premier shield' fee, the only way income can be generated is hoping people spend 'real' cash to promote their work to dollar status and page 1 or 2 for maximun exposure to the members by buying member cent pumps with real money.

Yes apparently there are plenty of people who are willing to spend real money to promote so that is their perogative if they wish to do so.

To fanstory admins. defence they do have cash prize contest incentives if you are that way inclined as you already know by the looks of your comment thread and congrats for those wins.

If I have this wrong I apologize to fanstory admin. and await their correction of my misunderstanding.

respectfully dip

RE: JUST AN OBSERVATION

Heather, it is all contrived. The more you spend (whether member dollars or real money) promoting your work, the more reviews it will receive, and hence the more likely it will be "recognized." This is not an indication of the quality of the writing, only the extent of the promoting you have purchased. And the reviews count whether they are good or bad.
To be "recognized" on one website is basically meaningless. But, if people enjoy that and want to spend their time and money with promotions and cliched reviews, they are welcome to do so.

Coco Jane,

I have to agree with you...For me, if I do not receive many reviews, I often will promote the piece of work, in order to receive more comments...It's a way to reach the "Well Received, or Recognized" status and more reviews....I don't review as much as some others, so there isn't the amount of member cents that accumulate to have my poetry read...I think reaching either of those two, actually depends on how many reviews the piece might receive... and often if the writer is willing to spend their member cents, or actual cash to keep the post open to be read.

I'm not taking away the quality of anyone's work, but I do know It often costs me many real dollars to allow my work to remain seen...and if it reaches those "Well Received, or Recognized" status...it's at a cost.

There's nothing wrong with that, reviews can also be learning experiences, but my point is that reaching either state doesn't mean the work is especially good...(I'm talking about myself, as I've observed for the years I've been here...(15 years)

Coco, you get out of it what you choose to get out of it. And reviewing is a key component of your experience. I am engaged in leisurely reviewing this year, and last, at a reviewing rank of 25 because I am only writing about twenty reviews every day, and that is a pace I like. When you are really playing the game, in the poetry category, you have to write at least forty to fifty reviews each and every day for the whole year. Writing two poems a day is the easy part. That said, I don't think anyone should knock it, until they try it. :))

And Dip, I don't see an olive branch. A sincere apology is all it takes.
