Oh, I am so sorry! When they get to that point, an accident is inevitable. (Same thing happened to a friend of mine. Also, one of my first memories is of the horrible demise of a cat who liked to lay on the car's engine for warmth.)

picky bits-

...little, grey, fluffy(delete comma) kitten...

maybe (for grammar)...at my feet(delete comma, insert 'and') wait...knee(period) Or, if you keep as is, remove the comma after 'knee', or if you keep that comma insert 'and' before 'then')...jump(remove comma and insert 'to', or if you keep the comma, either follow it with 'and' or change jump to jumping) My favorite way - as is...knee, and then...jump to settle...

Maybe exclamation points - "Stop! ...out!...

(Little did... Good foreshadowing!)

I cried along with you. :-(

Essay ended beautifully.

Seventeen is a really long life for a cat. Please have comfort knowing that you gave her a great life full of love.
All the best.

Hi Kathleen, Thank you very much for your lovely review and helpful hints. I put in some punctuation commas nased on another review who suggested where to put the comma's but differs now to your suggestions however I will review this again. Yes this was a difficult write and I did so with tears trying to recount this whole episode to make it a readable piece and now very pleased to share a third place in the contest so That made this worthwhile to write also

. Spook was loved very much and was one of fhe worst days in my life when this accident happened however my choice was already made when I saw the state she was in and I don't regret what I had to do but it makes me very sad and I do miss her. I won't replace her. I still have my lovely 7 year old Huskie to keep me company

I do appreciate your helpful hints and suggestions so Thanks again Cheers Christine😃👍

Animals touch our hearts in so many ways. They are members of the family. I have one kitty and three dogs. The sad part about having an animal companion is when they leave us. Best wishes for the contest. Marilyn

Hi Christine. I think there are a lot of animal lovers on the site. They are an important part of our lives. I have one elderly doggie who is very sick right now. Crossing my fingers she is with me a while longer. I'm happy to hear you placed in the contest. Congratulations. Marilyn

Thank you, Chrissy. Her doctor told me "it was time." I'm glad for his input. Feeling pretty yukky today, but Bristol is in Heaven now. Marilyn

Oh God, how awful! My heart goes out to you! What a story - whew! I've seen and heard a lot in my years on this earth, and a lot about animals too, but this one has squeezed my heart. I'm not sure it's going to let go anytime soon.

Good luck in the contest.

It's hard enough to lose a beloved pet to age, or even illness, but to accidentally kill one leaves a lifetime of pain and grief. My sister was visiting my mom one day, and mom's dog, Nipper, was under my sister's car when she prepared to leave. She felt the bump, panicked, put it in reverse, and again ran over Nipper. It was the hardest thing she ever had to do, going in to tell our mother.

Hi JDRBAR Thank you for your review And these accidents are heartbraking but I had 17 years of friendship and love from my Spook and I had no choice when I saw her after I had ran over her. Tears still run when I think of her and even writining this made me cry.Her atory gained me a third place in the contest so that was a bonus. Cheers Christine😃👍

Hi Chrissy,

This is such a tragic accident. It sounds like it was probably inevitable and she was nearing the end of her time. Seventeen years is a long time to have a cat, what a joy that you cared for her so long. We've had similar instances with pets in our lives. It is always difficult to lose one.

Your piece is well written and an honor to her memory, as is the lovely picture you've provided. Thank you for sharing and good luck in the contest.

Kim

Hi Kim Yes it was and heartbraking for me but as I say I had no choice and I do have my lovely memories of a 17 year bond. The image is of her resting place and I found the porcelain cat that just reminded me of her. Cheers Christine😃👍

This had to be emotional for you to write. I know it took courage.
Job well done!
I especially like how it starts out: 'Dare I share my story?'
Lovely artwork: The image shown fits the story.
Best of luck to you in the contest.
Thanks for sharing your beautiful creature.
Good luck with your future writing.

I adore [Spook's] resting place in your garden.
But the story was so bitter-sweet even I had
trouble reading the last lines because everything
became hazy with something.

Yepp, I realised they were tears when they finally hit my cheek.

Such an emotional write. I'm sorry for your loss. It is one thing to lose a pet to death, but to have to do the act - ouch. Just know she is in a far better place. Good luck in the contest,
