I've made that journey many times but only once, flying from LA to NY, did I see the clear view you describe so beautifully.

The analogy to your life is well done. Perspective can make all the difference.

"I see it through the billows of the Christ" is a remarkable line. Creative, thought provoking, spiritual.

I wish you well in the contest.

Blessings Julia

Loved your poem. It shows the many scenarios of God, His creations, mankind. He is love. When I wake up each morning, I thank Him. We are blessed. Thank you for reminding us.

Hello Rosemary. Thank you so much for your positive and meaningful remarks. In my view every poem should have a clear message, no matter how long or short. THANK YOU.

Masterful rhymes and rhythm ! The images you write about are touching and moving too, especially those about the sky, the patchwork and the quilt. Great job! Continue writing poems such as this one.

Robert,

I have had poems that 'percolated' for years. Isn't it amazing how some pieces just pop right out and others we have to meditate on until they mature in our minds -- or, maybe -- until WE mature enough to figure out how to express them..?

I really liked this. And I can see how being up and above everything could put your mind into this state of thinking.

I liked the whole thing, but the lines below were my very favorite:

*

I always knew that Christ had died
And agonized upon the groaning tree.
And now my joy is rightly full
because I know that Christ has died for me.

*

Thanks and good luck!

Hello Robyn. Thank you for the positive review and thoughtful comments. I agree with your observation about poems taking time. I have poems I have written in 20 minutes and this one took 20 years. Robert

I have taken similar flights and have much enjoyed the view on cloudless days. Your analogy about the patchwork quilt seen from 30,000 feet is so appropriate, and also when it's covered with billowy clouds. I especially liked stanza 3 and I'm not a farmer. Interesting format chosen alternating tetrameter with pentameter and using ABCB rhyme. Rod

Looking out of a plane window can be a very detailed and interesting experience. I like how you also referred to the clouds as patchwork, I felt it fit very well in the poem.

I've made that flight 4 times, and back again, from Los Angelos to New York, after coming from Australia with my wife, when my daughter lived in NY. A wonderful poem Robert, I often ponder, that's how one builds on faith, moments when one knows how we're both loved and worthwhile to God, when we know we shouldn't. Articulate, smooth, unusual meter, tetrametric/pentametric and ballad style abcb rhyme, beautifully done my friend, well done, blessings, Roy

Hello Roy. That's a long trip from Australia to New York. Back in the 70s I did business with a company called Amalgamated Wireless Australasia. I never got to make the trip to Sydney. Thank you for your beautiful review. A view from 30000 feet can give real perspective to human beings. We can see how big God is and how small we are. Thank you for reading and reviewing. It's always a pleasure to hear from you. Robert

I?m sorry you didn?t make it here Robert, my daughter lives back here in Brisbane, with hubby and sons, only 2000 kms away, 1200 miles. Bless you my friend.

In my opinion, a stunning and thoughtful write, with but a few uneven spots in the movement of the rhyming rhythm, which, as you know, is easily corrected by reading the work aloud. While I am reluctant to offer suggestions, I will, because I believe you will question my review, so with your permission, I hope:
1st stanza - 2nd line - "I viewed the patchwork man knitted there,"
4th line - "that fashioned a quilt, so large-so fair,"
2nd stanza - 4th line - "and swallowed the quilt with splendid might," etc.

As you can easily see, deleting words can often smooth the write, therefore the read, significantly...

It is hard to phantom how we, not even a speck in the universe could be known and loved by God as we are. Even at 30,000 feet one gets a different perspective on their life. Imagine what perspective we would have light-years away from earth. I can only guess what the first astronauts were thinking. I love the way your poem takes the reader on this journey. That photograph is awesome!

Thank you very much for your positive review for my poem. I appreciate your comments concerning how God knows us even in this vast universe. Man has no clue how immense the universe is yet the Bible says God counts every hair on our heads. I'm so pleased you view my poem favorably. Robert
